The estimated number of new children suffering from cancer is around 2000-2500 per year in Nepal. Only a fraction of the total estimated pediatric cancer patients reaches Kanti Children`s Hospital, Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital, Patan Academy of Health Sciences and BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital each year. Signs and symptoms of childhood cancer being mostly non-specific and many myths existing in the community, we were prompted to conduct orientation training regarding childhood cancer and its early detection among the grass-root level health workers. With eleven such trainings already conducted elsewhere, Siraha and Saptari were chosen as the twelfth site for this training program for creating awareness and smooth running of Shared care center to be established in Madhesh province.
This training was organized on 2081/06/06 (22nd September 2024) at Hotel Vishal, Lahan, Siraha, Nepal. It was organized by Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital in Collaboration with Kanti Children`s Hospital with support from Together Against Childhood Cancer (TACC), Ramesh Gupta Memorial Trust (RGMT) and World Child Cancer (WCC).
